Frequently Asked Questions

What is Children's Church?

Children's Church is a new spin on Sunday School, focusing on learning about Christianity through fun activities.

Who's too young or too old for Children's Church?

No one. All ages are welcome!

Are parents welcome?

Yes. Parents are welcome at Children's Church, or they can stay in the main service.

What is Young Church?

Young Church is for teenagers and pre-teens, offering them a safe place to explore their feelings and beliefs.

Can I come and help out?

Yes. Email
Holly or come and see her in church. She has a rota of helpers and will happily sign you up for a Sunday that is convenient to you.

Helping involves having fun with the children and keeping them safe.

How often are events held?

Events are held on special occasions throughout the church calendar. Visit the
Events page for information on upcoming events.

We also hold days for schoolchildren, which are organized through the schools. Information is passed out by the schools.

Do I have to come every week?

No. An ongoing commitment is not necessary. Just come whenever you feel like it.

Do I have to tell anyone I'm coming?

No. Just turn up.

What if my children want to come to church, but do not wish to participate in Children's Church?

Children can play in the colourful and well-equipped Children's Corner while the service commences. Regrettably, because the Co-ordinator spends the majority of the service in Kirkland Hall (doing activities for Children's Church), she cannot guarantee supervision of children in the Children's Corner.

What happens at Family Service?

The Family Service (second Sunday of every month) is a regular church service, where the children are invited to play in the Children's Corner instead of partaking in Children's Church activities. On these occasions, the Co-ordinator will be there to supervise. In future, if demand dictates, the children will be more actively involved in the church service, performing songs and enacting stories.

Who is the Co-ordinator of Children's Church and Young Church?

Holly Swinton is the church's Children and Families Co-ordinator. She supervises Children's Church. She is a trained primary school teacher and local tutor. She has experience of teaching a range of age groups, from babies and toddlers right through to teenagers.

Heidi Montgomery leads Young Church. She is married to the church's Curate, the Revd Steve McCann.

How can I contact the Children and Families Co-ordinator?

You can email Holly (
hollyemmamartin@hotmail.com) or leave a message at the church on 01539 721248.
